Chagrin Gateway Forum: John Cranley

CINCINNATI MAYOR JOHN CRANLEY

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 18 – 7PM

Virtual Event via Zoom

With the 2022 races right around the corner, the Chagrin Gateway Democrats invite you to spend an evening discussing the future of Ohio and the nation with Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley.

Register below. Zoom meeting link and passcode will be distributed the week of the event.

Since taking office in December 2013, Cincinnati Mayor Cranley has placed a renewed focus on building vibrant, thriving neighborhoods by getting the basics right and making strategic investments to spur growth. Mayor Cranley implemented a multi-year plan to dramatically increase the miles of city roads that are paved and repaired annually, expanded the City’s efforts to crack down on absentee landlords and reduce blight, and invested in economic development deals throughout the city.

Mayor Cranley has led efforts to invest in job training, make the City more inclusive, and reduce poverty all while getting the City’s credit upgraded, wiping out the $800 million unfunded liability that the City’s pension system was facing, and adding over 100 cops to the police force.

Prior to taking office, Mayor Cranley co-founded the Ohio Innocence Project, a organization that has exonerated and freed 23 wrongfully convicted people through the use of DNA technology. He also worked as a real estate developer and attorney.

John graduated from St. William’s, St. Xavier High School. He earned degrees from John Carroll University, Harvard Law School and Harvard Divinity School.

John lives in Hyde Park with his wife Dena and their son Joseph.

DAYTON MAYOR NAN WHALEY

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4 – 7PM

Virtual Event via Zoom

With the 2022 races right around the corner, the Chagrin Gateway Democrats invite you to spend an evening discussing the future of Ohio and the nation with Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley.

Register below. Zoom meeting link and passcode will be distributed the week of the event.

Elected in 2013 as mayor of Ohio’s sixth largest city, Dayton’s Nan Whaley has helped lead an economic resurgence in Montgomery County while unexpectedly becoming a national voice on the issue of gun reform following a mass shooting in her city in the summer of 2019.

Her career is distinguished by her commitment to public service, civic involvement and interest in local government. First elected to the Dayton City Commission in 2005, Whaley was the youngest woman ever chosen for a commission seat. Elected as Dayton’s mayor in 2013 by a double-digit majority, she has focused on the areas of community development, manufacturing, and women and children.

Whaley is a national leader among her peers serving as the Second Vice President for the US Conference of Mayors as well as the Chair of the International Committee for the conference. She is also a founding board member for the Ohio’s Mayor Alliance, a bipartisan coalition of Ohio’s 30 largest cities.

Whaley has been committed to the political process in local, state and national elections. While in college, she served as Ohio Chair of the College Democrats. She currently serves as Second Vice President of the National Conference of Democratic Mayors. Additionally, she is a four time delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

Join us (on Zoom) as we take some time to fill out postcards to likely voters in our neighborhoods. We’ll also be joined by guests including candidates and an occasional surprise guest.

Postcards, a script, and a list of voters will be provided to you ahead of the event. We prefer it if you can pick up the postcards from one of our neighborhood “outposts” (volunteer homes with plastic bin on the porch), but can drop off postcards to your home if needed.

Zoom meeting details, the script, and the list of voters will be sent to you the day before the event.
