SUMMARY:Candlelight Vigil at Geauga ICE Facility
DESCRIPTION:Join organizers at the Geauga County ICE Detention Facility on Thursday\, May 28th from 7- 8:30pm at the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office\n12450 Merritt Rd\, Chardon\, 44024 as part of the statewide Week of Interfaith Vigils across Ohio. From May 23 to May 30\, communities will unite in solidarity with those held in civil immigration detention\, raising our voices for change. This vigil will include interfaith prayers\, brief speaking programs\, and opportunities for peaceful reflection with signs and candles. Together\, we will call for an end to ICE detention\, demand transparency regarding detention facility funding\, and advocate for the cessation of 287(g) agreements. Your presence is vital as we stand in collective action for justice and compassion. Event is hosted by Like Minded Lake County.

Thursday\, May 7 at 6:30pm at the Orange Branch Library\, 31975 Chagrin Blvd\, Pepper Pike\, OH 44124. RSVP for the meeting to help us plan use of the space. \nAbout our speakers:\n\nMichael Halberstam’s experience includes civil rights; employment and whistleblower litigation; political law; voting rights; corporate\, civil\, and securities litigation; and corporate compliance. \nHe has litigated in federal district court and in bankruptcy court\, conducted corporate internal investigations\, managed large-scale electronic discovery\, participated in large-scale billion-dollar multi-district litigation\, and served as a legal expert on provisions of U.S. federal civil procedure in a number of foreign securities class actions. Michael is the author of a book and numerous articles\, including articles in the Election Law Journal\, the Emory Law Journal\, the Northwestern Law Review\, the Connecticut Law Review\, the Seattle Law Review\, and Law and Social Inquiry. He has edited two volumes of the Election Law Journal\, one on redistricting\, the other on the intersection of campaign finance and lobbying regulations \n\nKimberly Kilby is a civil rights attorney and public servant dedicated to expanding opportunity and protecting the rights of every student. She currently serves as an attorney with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights\, where she works on matters involving equal access to education and the fair treatment of students in schools and colleges. Her work focuses on helping educational institutions meet their legal obligations while keeping students’ needs at the center of decision-making.
